Make Sunblock at home

Ingredients:

  1. Coconut Oil: 1/2 cup
  2. Shea Butter: 1/4 cup
  3. Beeswax: 2 tablespoons
  4. Zinc Oxide: 2 tablespoons
  5. Vitamin E Oil: 1 teaspoon (optional, for added skin benefits)
  6. Essential Oils: 10-20 drops (optional, for fragrance and additional skin benefits)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare a Double Boiler: Fill a saucepan with a couple of inches of water and place a heat-safe bowl on top. This will create a double boiler setup.

  2. Melt the Ingredients: Add coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax into the bowl. Heat gently over medium-low heat until all the ingredients are melted and well combined. Beeswax takes the longest to melt, so be patient.

  3. Add Zinc Oxide: Once everything is melted, remove the mixture from heat and allow it to cool slightly. Then, carefully add the zinc oxide, stirring continuously to avoid clumping. Make sure the zinc oxide is evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

  4. Add Optional Ingredients: If using, add the vitamin E oil and essential oils at this stage. Stir well to incorporate.

  5. Transfer to Container: Pour the mixture into a clean, airtight container. It's best to use a container that's suitable for storing homemade cosmetics, such as a small glass jar.

  6. Allow to Set: Let the sunblock cool and set completely before using it. This may take a few hours at room temperature.

Usage:

Apply the homemade sunblock generously to all exposed skin before going out in the sun. Reapply every couple of hours, especially if swimming or sweating heavily.
