How to make pizza at home

Making pizza at home is a fun and rewarding experience! Here's a basic recipe for homemade pizza dough and instructions for assembling and baking your pizza:

Ingredients for Pizza Dough:

  • 2 and 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 and 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 3 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions for Pizza Dough:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.

  2. In a large mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine the flour and salt.

  3. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.

  4. Mix the dough until it comes together and forms a ball. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, 1 tablespoon at a time. If it's too dry, add a little more warm water, 1 tablespoon at a time.

  5. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  6. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.

Ingredients and Instructions for Assembling and Baking the Pizza:

  1. Preheat your oven to the highest temperature it can go (usually around 475°F/245°C to 500°F/260°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats.

  2. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air bubbles. Divide it into two equal portions for thin-crust pizzas or leave it as one for a thicker crust.

  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into your desired shape and thickness. Transfer it to a pizza peel or lightly greased baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  4. Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a border around the edges for the crust.

  5. Add your desired toppings, such as shredded mozzarella cheese, sliced vegetables, cooked meats, and herbs.

  6. Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (either onto the pizza stone or directly onto the baking sheet) and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  7. Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Enjoy your homemade pizza fresh out of the oven! Feel free to customize it with your favorite toppings and experiment with different flavor combinations.
